15 Easy Steps to Purchase and Import to Canada a Pre-Driven Vehicle From Wherley Motors

  1. Shop with a Wherley Motors sales professional to find the right vehicle at the right price for you.

  2. You may want to check Transport Canada’s List of Vehicles Admissible from the U.S. to be sure your selected vehicle is eligible for importation to Canada

  3. You may find all Wherley Motors inventory here at www.wherleymotors.com. In addition to over 100 used vehicles in stock, Wherley Motors may be able to find you any make or model of vehicles thru their extensive network of auctions and wholesalers.

  4. Complete paperwork at the dealership. Reasonable down payment will be required.

  5. Following payment, you will receive title, bill of sale, and recall clearance letter stating that all recalls have been completed.

  6. Fax or deliver to the U.S. Customs border crossing: copy of your drivers license, bill of sale and vehicle title. This step needs to be done a minimum of 72 hours prior to when you want to cross. Wherley Motors sales staff would be glad to assist in this step.

  7. Make your insurance arrangements.

  8. Schedule a time to take delivery with your Wherley Motors sales consultant.

  9. Stop at US Customs. Have proper identification on you that matches paperwork that you previously sent or fax’d in. U.S. Customs will stamp your vehicles title and release it to Canadian Customs.

  10. Stop at Canadian Customs and inform them you are importing a vehicle from the United States. Canadian Customs will have you fill out a Vehicle Import Form.

  11. Pay your RIV fee. Cost is normally $195 plus 5%GST plus $100 if the vehicle has air conditioning. We have been told that a credit card works best.

  12. Canadian Customs will verify your insurance, stamp you Vehicle Import Form 1, and allow you to pass.

  13. Within 10 days you will receive Vehicle Import Form 2-Federal Inspection.
You have 45 days to have your vehicle inspected by Canadian Tire. You may need repairs. You may have your repairs done anywhere, but Canadian Tire is the only facility that can do the inspection and approval. Bring all your documents with you for the Canadian Tire Inspection, including recall letter. Inspection at Canadian tire is no charge.

  14. When the vehicle passes inspection, they will put a sticker on the drivers side door stating that your vehicle is Canadian Safety compliant. They will complete Vehicle Import Form 2 and provide you with all the necessary paperwork to register you vehicle.

  15. Register the vehicle at a Provincial Vehicle Licensing Office. Here you will pay the necessary PST.
